bonjour ~

Welcome to the twenties world! I was once told that the twenties are the best years to make an account of precious memories of life, dreams and love–doing so in the most vibrant manner possible.

안녕하세요!

Been eating and eating after work/weekends during meet up with my friends/sisters during this period of time! Some are pretty good and worth going back again while other is tried and tested once is enough.

First up was Wimbly lu café! At Lorong Chuan, just 10 minutes walk away from the Lorong Chuan Mrt station walk towards the direction of Nanyang JC, or you can always take bus 58/105 (similar route to the MRT way, just 1 less bus stop distance to walk) and take a 5 minutes’ walk into the terraces area to reach Wimbly lu café.

Pretty easy to find since the whole area is full of condominium so your way is kind of fixed for you. Try to on the google map on your phone and follow the route with the road name given; it was quite accurate for us!

So the first sight that would be greeting you after finding Wimbly Lu’s famous red Volkswagen vintage beetle car! This car is also incorporated into the logo for the café! I wonder if the owner would drive it away after work but got no guts to find out exactly from them. Hehe☺

The café itself is pretty small, quite cramped in my opinion, with a seating capacity of maybe at most 35? We reached there about 5 plus pm and just nice there was a queue :( (about 20 mins wait I think?). So it will be better to reach around 3 to 4pm to avoid queuing☺.

Went there on a weekend and since they have the weekend special cake – lemon meringe pie, we decided why not that! (Which was a bit too sour for me and thank goodness we had a chocolate tofu cake at the same time to alternate between the 2 cakes and manage to strike a balance of taste between them. If you are sick of the chocolate get some fruity taste and vice-verse!)

The chocolate for the tofu cake should be dark chocolate? Since it wasn’t as sweet as the usually chocolate cake and it is indeed softer than other normal chocolate cake since the cake isn’t baked, it feels more like moose than cake! Phew, but not really like tofu in terms of texture and taste☺. (It would be weird right?)

Next up was the WAFFLES! I think that is what they are really famous for? We have the waffles with 1 scoop of honey cinnamon ice-cream, you can always get more scoop if you don’t mind topping up more $$. (Hahas.)

There were pancakes and crepes as well for ppl who didn’t like waffles, and there are a few choices for syrup as well. Well, for me, waffles still goes best with the usually maple syrup, and as for ice-cream I think salted caramel would be a slightly better choice than honey cinnamon? (There are more choices for ice-creams compared to the syrup!) But in all, I guess it still depends on individual’s likings! The waffles is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside (get your syrup individually and not on top of you waffles when serving! It will reduce the crispiness ~)

One thing I like about Wimbly Lu is their lighting towards the near of the café! Cause the ceiling is transparent ceiling so it allows maximum amount of light entry! Very good for photo taking 

BUT do have a strong heart if you were to seat near the back door with synthetic grass carpet layered on the ground. It might be the best spot for you to have your photo session but is the most shock prone area, as there is a basketball court nearby! So despite the back door having double layer, seeing the ball flying to that direction suddenly at high speed is no fun especially if you are seating right beside the door. (Didn’t occur too many times actually during my short visit, but once is enough to shock that customer there. No real injuries would happen other than shocking. ☺)

Anyway Wimbly Lu is vested with couples since they are café? Not too recommended if going in too big a group or going alone, going in double is the best choice! But you can always have take-away instead and go to somewhere else to enjoy your cakes and avoid queuing!

For dining in, there would be additional 10% services charge on top of the basic cakes charges, while take-away doesn’t, so one more reason to why you might want to takeaway instead, but I am not so sure if everything is available for take-away.

Choices are quite limited if you want to have a proper meal there, almost all of the customers are there for snacks, coffee, and mainly desserts like waffles and cakes! Desserts are below $10 but mostly higher than $5, so if you want to have a spread better pull your friends along with you to enjoy the desserts to the maximum! (Oh, something random~~ All the waiters uses iphone to take your orders and ipad for cashier counter, something different huh compared to the rest?☺)

I thought it was a bit expensive as it was around $20 ++ for the 2 of us? But I think I might be back again for the other cakes and maybe waffles as well? Worth going for dessert once in awhile since high tea pricing could be even higher for the cakes of the same quality at other places. hahas

Also went to Tim Ho Wan recently, to the one located at west gate (at the basement) with my friends, it was weekday (Monday to be precise) dinner time when we met and there was a short queue before entering.

Hehe, a bit paiseh to take the picture hence the crooked, blur one above

Order quite a few dishes, even though there was only limited number of dim sums. I was quite disappointed to see the limited number; it was even fewer than Swee choon :(

Ordered the must-order Char Siew Bao, and it was quite nice! Something different from the usual one! Since the skin of the bao wasn’t your usual soft and fluffy kind. The filling inside is a tad too salty but still nice I think :) but will get sick of it soon if you have more than 2 of it. (well, unless you are a Bao-mania then maybe you can just have the Baos there as your dinner~)

Actually other than this dim sum the others were only decent, where one could easily have them outside, the worst was the beef rice dish (the 3rd pic), we didn’t make any effort to finish it. The carrot cake or yam cake was not bad too.
The rest of the dim sum were really normal, and we ate more than this amount but since everyone was too hungry to wait for me to finish taking the photos so let’s just move on with whatever I have here…

I think I would rather take a longer walk to get to Swee choon to have a wider variety of dim sum and at a cheaper pricing. Since only the Char Siew Bao is different from others. (Why not just buy char siew bao and eat the rest at other place. Lol!)

I think the best Siew mai that I ever have up to this point is from Yum Cha ala cart buffet  the prawn taste is so strong and so fresh. I misses it now~

Among so many dim sums, I think my favourite one is Siew Mai, can have it non-stop and not get sick of it, unlike other dim sum with skin and you get tired of having too many flour mixed together. Hehe. (maybe cause I am a meat lover~~)

Would like to try the dim sum from 126 someday to see whether Swee Choon or 126 is better. Hehe.

Went to Canton Paradise located at basement of Bedok mall as well, and it was serving mainly dim sums and noodles! (Need to go there earlier to queue, maybe cause it was Friday night?). The bbq meat and the bacon cheese dish were not bad! Wanted to try their Char Siew Bao which is similar to Tim Ho Wan’s one but it was sold out. They do sell siew mai, shanghai dumplings, wanton mee and more but all just so-so only. Not sure if it is cause we ate the Liew Sha Bao too late or something, the filling inside didn’t burst out like what Swee Choon/ other dim sum place would have. :(

Price range wise is more or less similar to Tim Ho Wan’s one, but if you like to enjoy the ambience, then Canton Paradise at Bedok Mall would be a better choice than Tim Ho Wan at the West gate (as each table are just too close).

That’s more or less about it regarding mainly non-main course food!

Would be back for more uodates!

Till we meet again!
